Job Summary:
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Open Heart (PICU OH) position is located in Dallas, Texas. This role involves providing specialized care for pediatric patients with cardiac conditions in a dedicated intensive care environment. The assignment features a night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts, a minimum of 36 hours per week, starting on September 8, 2026.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Nights, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 1 year of Pediatric CICU (Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit) or CVICU (Cardiac and Vascular Intensive Care Unit) experience as a staff nurse, along with 3-4 contracts in a dedicated pediatric CICU, and a minimum of 2 years of PICU experience as a staff nurse. Certifications required include Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with 2 or more years of Pediatric CICU/CVICU experience, including care for neonatal cardiac patients (pre-op and post-op management), and at least 2 years of pediatric cardiac experience on a step-down or cardiology floor will be considered first.
- Responsibilities: Perform procedures such as central line and arterial line placement, conscious sedation, intubation/extubation, post-operative recovery of general and cardiac procedures, sternal closures, codes, ECMO cannulation and decannulation, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).
- Float: Float rotation may be required.
- Additional Information: The unit cares for ICU and step-down level patients using an acuity adaptive model. Staff operates in a team-based environment with a nurse-to-patient ratio typically ranging from 1:1 to 1:3, utilizing equipment such as IV pumps, Hillrom beds, GE radiant warmers, NIRS machines, and Servo U ventilators. EMR system used is Meditech. The dress code is royal blue scrubs. Work involves rotating weekends (day shift on Saturday and Sunday, night shift on Friday and Saturday); no on-call responsibilities are required.
