Job Summary:
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Open Heart specialty position located in Dallas, Texas. This role involves providing specialized care for pediatric patients with congenital heart disease, including post-operative management and critical care needs. The position is scheduled for day shifts with rotating weekends and no on-call requirements.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour shifts with rotating weekends (Saturday and Sunday days, Friday and Saturday nights) and no on-call
- Required Qualifications: Valid certifications in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS); 1 year of Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) or Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience as a staff nurse; three to four contracts in a dedicated pediatric CICU; at least 2 years minimum PICU experience as a staff nurse; experience caring for patients with congenital heart disease and post-operative management of congenital heart disease patients; experience managing arterial lines, central lines, transthoracic lines
- Preferred Qualifications: At least 2 years of Pediatric CICU/CVICU experience as a staff nurse; at least 1 year of neonatal cardiac patient care (pre-op and post-op management); 2 or more years of pediatric cardiac experience on a step-down or cardiology floor
- Patient Care: Involves procedures such as central line and arterial line placement, conscious sedation, intubation and extubation, post-op recovery of cardiac and general procedures, sternal closures, codes, ECMO cannulation and decannulation, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), Manual Pleurodesis (PDB)
- Unit Information: The unit cares for ICU and step-down pediatric cardiac patients on an acuity adaptive model with a typical patient ratio of 1:2, 1:1, and occasionally 1:3. It is equipped with IV pumps, Hillrom beds, GE radiant warmers, Somanetics Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) machines, Servo U ventilators, and other advanced medical equipment. The electronic medical record system used is Meditech.
