Job Summary:
Pediatric Hematology Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) at a childrens hospital located in Virginia. This position involves delivering specialized care to pediatric oncology patients, including administering chemotherapy and biotherapy, assessing patient conditions, managing side effects, and providing emotional support to patients and their families. The role requires attentive prioritization skills in a fast-paced inpatient Hematology and Oncology unit.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Rotating shifts, 12 hours per shift, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: 3 years of experience in an acute and chronic care setting with solid oncology background; APHON Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider status; PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support) certifications; valid for flu vaccination with no exemptions.
- Preferred Qualifications: Attentiveness to all types of cancer diagnoses; experience administering chemotherapy, blood components, fluid/electrolyte replacements, and oncology treatments; strong prioritization skills in high-pressure environments.
- Float: Float rotation may be required.
- Additional Information: The inpatient HemOnc unit includes a 16-bed unit with a patient-to-nurse ratio of approximately 3:1 for most patients, possibly fluctuating to 4:1 with med/surg patients; team support includes charge RN, team lead RN, and nursing care partners assisting with clinical tasks.
