Travel Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) – 15-Week Contract in Hagerstown, MD
Join a fast-paced Emergency Department team in Hagerstown, Maryland, and make an immediate impact as a travel RN caring for high-acuity patients in a Level II Trauma Center. This 15-week travel nursing assignment offers the opportunity to work in a 54-bed emergency department that treats approximately 220 patients each day across the lifespan, from neonates and pediatrics to adults and geriatrics.
Travel RN Job Details
- Location: Hagerstown, Maryland — a welcoming Western Maryland community with convenient access to outdoor recreation, historic attractions, and major metropolitan areas
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,020–$2,130
- Start Date: October 19, 2026
- Assignment Duration: 15 weeks, ending February 1, 2027
- Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 36 hours per week
- Department: Emergency Department
- Healthcare Setting: Level II Trauma Center
- Patient Population: Neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:4 on days, nights, and weekends
- Weekend Expectations: Up to six Friday or Saturday night shifts during a six-week scheduling period; some holiday coverage may be required
- Orientation: Approximately 20 hours
Emergency Department Travel RN Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Maryland
- At least 2 years of recent Emergency Department nursing experience
- At least 1 year of Emergency Department travel nursing experience
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NIHSS certifications
- Recent experience with Epic electronic medical records is required
- Experience in a Level II Trauma Center or high-acuity emergency setting preferred
- Demonstrated ability to care for patients across the lifespan
- Required immunizations and screening include COVID-19 vaccination, influenza vaccination, and two-step PPD testing; exemptions are not available
- Strong clinical judgment, adaptability, communication skills, and ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment
Emergency Department Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care to approximately 220 patients per day in a high-volume, high-acuity department
- Perform rapid assessment, triage, reassessment, monitoring, and prioritization of patients with emergent and complex conditions
- Care for trauma, stroke, cardiac, orthopedic, respiratory, and medical emergency patients
- Manage patients requiring ventilatory support, BiPAP/CPAP, continuous IV sedation, vasopressors, and procedural sedation
- Administer blood products and medications while maintaining safe IV access and central-line care
- Interpret cardiac dysrhythmias and arterial blood gases and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
- Support STEMI, stroke, trauma, and other emergency response protocols
- Apply isolation precautions, PPE standards, and evidence-based emergency nursing practices
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapy, radiology, pharmacy, laboratory, social services, and other interdisciplinary teams
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, outcomes, and care plans in Epic
- Participate in unit-based scheduling, weekend coverage, floating practices, and required education modules as assigned
