Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool position requiring 2 years of PICU experience and VA or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool position at a teaching hospital
  • Floats to various pediatric units including PICU, NICU, peds med-surg, peds PACU, peds ED boarders, and postpartum/mother-baby
  • Night shift schedule (4x12 hours), 19:00-7:00
  • 36 or 48 hours per week, every other weekend required
  • Must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays
  • Block scheduling cannot be accommodated or guaranteed
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • Must float within scope of practice per facility float policy

Requirements

  • Active RN license (VA or compact) required; pending license accepted if in-hand by the Wednesday before start date
  • 2 years of PICU experience required
  • Comfortable with NICU, acute pediatrics, and pediatric ED patient populations
  • Prior travel nursing experience required, or previous NICU/PICU float pool experience considered
  • Required certifications: BLS, NRP, ACLS, and PALS
  • Dr. Brown's Infant-Driven Feeding Certificate required (can submit with certification pending)
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience required
  • Peds PACU experience highly preferred
  • BSN preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing support across multiple pediatric units as part of a float pool team
  • Complete specialty-specific modules during orientation, recorded in Workday
  • Maximum of 40 hours RTO per 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved after offer acceptance
  • No RTO can be approved during the first 2 weeks of the assignment
  • Disclose any vacation time between sign date and start date to determine an appropriate start date
  • First-time travelers may be considered if candidate has previous NICU/PICU float pool experience
  • Previous UVA Health employees (permanent staff or internal/external travelers) must disclose this; a 1-year separation and leadership approval required for former permanent staff or internal travelers
  • External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return once this threshold is reached
  • Longer assignment length may be offered through 01/02/2027
