Description

American Traveler is hiring a Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool RN with required PICU experience and VA or compact RN license for a teaching hospital setting.

Details

  • Float Pool position covering various pediatric units including PICU, NICU, peds med-surg, peds PACU, peds ED boarders, and postpartum/mother-baby
  • Night shift schedule with 4x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM-7:00 AM)
  • 36 or 48 hours per week
  • 13-week contract length
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday rotation required
  • Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • Floating required within scope of practice per facility float policy

Requirements

  • Active VA or compact RN license required (pending license accepted if in-hand by Wednesday before start date)
  • BSN preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
  • Must be comfortable with NICU, acute pediatrics, and pediatric ED patient populations
  • Teaching hospital experience required
  • Prior travel experience required, though candidates with previous NICU/PICU float pool experience will be considered
  • Required certifications: BLS, NRP, ACLS, and PALS
  • Infant-Driven Feeding Certificate required (may submit with certification pending)
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Peds PACU experience highly preferred
  • Previous charge experience preferred
  • Community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to pediatric patients across multiple specialty units including PICU, NICU, and pediatric ED
  • Maximum 40 hours of RTO approved per 13-week contract, with no RTO approved during the first 2 weeks of the assignment
  • No additional RTO requests approved after offer acceptance
  • First-time travelers will be considered if they have previous NICU/PICU float pool experience
  • Previous UVA employees (permanent staff or internal/external travelers) must have 1-year separation and leadership approval to return
  • External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return after reaching this limit
