Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse - PCU for a Nursing Float Pool position requiring PCU/Tele experience and WA or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Float pool position covering PCU, Tele, MedSurg, and ER Holding units within the hospital, with occasional floating to a nearby sister hospital approximately 2.5 miles away
  • Most shifts spent in ED Holding, caring for a range of patient types including neuro, trauma, surgical, and medical cases
  • Cares for patients with respiratory compromise, sepsis, renal failure, bleeding disorders, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, ortho, and strokes
  • Cardiac stepdown and cardiac short stay patients including 24h post CABG/TAVR, STEMIs, fem-pops, pacemakers, ablations, chest pain observation, post-cath, and TR bands
  • Patient ratios of 1:4 on PCU and 1:5-6 on MedSurg
  • 12-hour night shifts, 0700-1930 or 1900-0730, totaling 48 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required (every other weekend, with rare back-to-back weekends)
  • No on-call requirements
  • Schedules built in 3-week increments and provided 7-10 days in advance; no self-scheduling and no guaranteed patterned schedule
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing system

Requirements

  • Active WA or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant nursing experience required
  • Strong PCU/Tele experience required, along with previous float pool experience preferred for first-time travelers
  • Skills in IV medication titration, cardiac rhythm interpretation, BiPAP management, ostomy care, drain management, tracheostomy care, chest tube care, and lumbar drain management required
  • TR Bands experience preferred
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Traveler Telemetry Competency required

Additional Information

  • Support team includes CNAs, a charge RN without patient assignment, 24/7 hospitalist coverage, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and on-call cardiac and specialty physicians
  • Orientation includes 1 day of general hospital orientation and 1 day (12 hours) of unit orientation on the PCU unit
  • Responsibilities include maintaining whiteboards, hourly rounding documentation, and bedside shift report
  • Saline flushes are treated as medication and must not be left at bedside or in scrub pockets
  • Two-nurse verification required when wasting narcotics or benzodiazepines
  • Pain must be documented before and after administering pain medication (30 minutes for IV, 1 hour for oral)
  • Breaks are required during shifts
  • Any solid, professional-colored scrubs permitted
  • Free garage parking available
  • Up to 5 days of RTO can be approved
  • First-time travelers considered if they have strong PCU/Tele and float pool experience
