Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) for a position in a Stepdown Unit. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional patient care and be capable of handling a fast-paced environment characterized by frequent admissions and discharges.
Unit Information
- Unit Type: Stepdown
- Number of Beds: 22
- Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:4
Common Diagnoses
- Heart failure
- Atrial fibrillation
- Respiratory distress
- Stroke
Key Responsibilities
- Titrate drips as needed. Common titratable and set-rate drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Nitro.
- Read and interpret telemetry strips; RNs must be capable of understanding their own strips.
- Provide care for patients using CPAP; troubleshooting required.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.
- Float to the ICU when appropriate based on experience.
Work Schedule
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirements: 1 major holiday and 1 minor holiday per year
- Scheduling: Cyclic scheduling with specific shift timings
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required.
- Certifications Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Must pass an open book exam on skills learned during orientation, achieving a minimum score of 90%.
- Valid driver's license required for employment eligibility check.
Additional Information
- Fingernail policy: Artificial nails are not permitted in patient care areas.
- Experienced nursing aids/patient care technicians available in a ratio of 1:10.
- Ideal candidate attributes include a positive attitude, teamwork orientation, and a commitment to patient care.
- Orientation consists of 1 departmental-specific 12-hour shift.
