PCU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated PCU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Stepdown unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care during 12-hour night shifts. This position requires teamwork, a positive attitude, and a commitment to patient-oriented care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients in a stepdown unit, adhering to established protocols and standards.
• Monitor and interpret patient vital signs and respond to changes in patient condition.
• Titrate intravenous drips such as Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin.
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Read and interpret cardiac monitor strips.
• Assist in the admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
• Utilize respiratory therapy equipment, such as CPAP, and troubleshoot as necessary.
• Support and mentor junior nursing staff and assist in their orientation.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients.

Qualifications

• Required Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a stepdown or critical care unit.
• Certifications: Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications are required.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to read and interpret EKG strips independently.

• Unit Type: Stepdown
• Number of Beds: 22
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
• Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Yes, with a ratio of 1:10.
• Fast-paced unit with frequent admissions and discharges.

Scheduling and Availability

• Shift Length: 12 hours, night shifts.
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend.
• Holiday Requirements: One major holiday and one minor holiday annually.
• Floating Requirements: May float to ICU if experience allows.

Additional Information

New hires will be required to pass an open-book exam on skills learned during orientation. A passing score of 90% is required to continue in the position.
