PCU Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Location: Columbia, South Carolina
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,750–$1,840
  • Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
  • Start Date: October 26, 2026
  • End Date: January 25, 2027
  • Unit: 41-bed progressive care, trauma, and telemetry unit
  • Shift: Night shift, 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 36 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: Six weekend shifts during each six-week schedule
  • Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients with surgical trauma diagnoses
  • Patient Ratios: Typically 1:4, flexing up to 1:5 as needed
  • Documentation: Epic electronic medical record (EMR)

PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in South Carolina
  • At least 1 year of recent PCU, progressive care, stepdown, intermediate care, or telemetry nursing experience; 2 or more years preferred for first-time travelers
  • At least 1 year of recent Epic experience
  • Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Current NIHSS certification
  • Strong telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation skills
  • Experience caring for adult and geriatric patients with surgical trauma, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, orthopedic trauma, or other complex injuries
  • Ability to complete required medication testing and pre-assignment learning modules
  • Trauma experience in a Level I or Level II setting is preferred
  • Current influenza vaccination is required

PCU RN Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to hemodynamically stable adult and geriatric patients in a progressive care and telemetry setting
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms, recognize changes in patient condition, and initiate appropriate interventions
  • Care for patients recovering from traumatic injuries, surgical procedures, penetrating injuries, motor vehicle crashes, falls, and assaults
  • Manage patients requiring telemetry, high-flow oxygen, nasal cannula, BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, surgical drains, wound vacs, tracheostomy care, and feeding tube care
  • Administer blood products, manage central and peripheral lines, care for PICC lines and ports, and maintain IV therapy
  • Manage heparin protocols, patient-controlled analgesia, isolation precautions, and other complex treatment plans
  • Perform focused assessments, medication administration, care planning, patient education, and accurate Epic documentation
  • Collaborate with physicians, rapid response teams, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rehabilitation services, IV teams, radiology, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
  • Respond to changes in patient status and participate in rapid response and code team interventions as appropriate
  • Float to qualified units or campuses when requested and perform only tasks supported by verified competencies
