Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical PCU position requiring at least 2 years of experience and proficiency with high-acuity surgical patient care.

Details

  • Surgical Progressive Care Unit with near-ICU level acuity
  • Patient population includes ENT (neck dissections, mandibulectomy), thoracic (esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy), general surgery (pancreatic, bowel/liver resections), urology (urinary diversions, cystectomies, RPLND), and medical overflow cases
  • Staffing ratio of 1:3-4
  • Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours, 19:00-7:30
  • Required to work every other weekend, with possible consecutive weekends based on operational needs
  • May be required to provide unit charge nurse coverage with training and resources provided
  • Float requirement to Med-Surg, PCU, and ICU levels of care at University and Methodist Hospitals
  • Cerner charting system used

Requirements

  • Active RN license (IN or Compact) in hand prior to start date
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA or RQI accepted)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, chest tube management, fresh trach care, feeding tube management, post-op patient care, epidurals, non-titratable cardiac drips, IV insulin protocols, external BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy, and Doppler flap checks
  • Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Nursing degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation
  • 2 supervisor references required
  • SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide high-acuity surgical PCU nursing care across ENT, thoracic, general surgery, and urology patient populations
  • May be required to precept or have students assigned to shadow during the assignment, as this is a teaching hospital
  • Floating is 100% required for all travelers within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital
  • Refusal to float may result in contract termination
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • RTO of 5 days or less can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates from Indiana are not accepted for this position
  • Any current or former IU Health perm/PRN employee must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
  • Travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within IU Health must take a designated consecutive break to reset eligibility: 90 days for out-of-state residents and 180 days for in-state residents
