Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (Acute Leukemia/Hematology) position requiring 2 years of acute care experience and a compact or Ohio RN license.

Details

  • PCU setting specializing in acute leukemia and hematology patients
  • Cares for adult and geriatric patients, primarily newly diagnosed acute leukemia cases
  • 12-hour rotating day/night shifts (7:00-19:30 or 19:00-7:30)
  • Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing needs
  • Staffing ratio goal of 1:4, potentially up to 1:5
  • Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
  • Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Ohio or compact) in hand at time of consideration
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • NIHSS certification required
  • ONS Chemo certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of current, consistent acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months
  • At least 1 year of PCU experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience preferred, though first-time travelers will be screened
  • Nursing education from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Skilled in telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
  • Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and starting/maintaining IVs
  • Experience with central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care and management
  • Experience with blood product administration
  • Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; charge RN acceptable for second reference; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

  • Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls prevention
  • Responsibilities include feeding tube care and management, use of Rapid Response Teams, and blood product administration
  • Oncology experience preferred; training provided for oncology patient care
  • No chemo certification required to start the assignment
  • RTO must be submitted with contract request and is limited to 7 days or less
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees eligible for travel assignment after 6 months away from the facility
  • Current employees are ineligible to work as travelers at this health system
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing contract due to strict compliance timelines
  • Candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location; those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
