Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position on night shift, requiring NE or compact RN licensure and 2 years of stepdown/telemetry experience.

Details

  • Acute care setting in a Stepdown/PCU unit at a Level 2 Trauma facility
  • 35-bed unit with patient ratios of 1:4-5
  • Cares for adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, and diabetes diagnoses, including continuous EEG monitoring
  • RNs required to titrate drips such as Cardizem, betablockers, and seizure medications
  • Charge nurse present on each shift
  • Patient care techs staffed at 1:10 or 2:20 ratios
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts, either 0630-1900 or 1830-0700
  • Every other weekend required
  • Every third holiday required
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Floating required to medical floors, ICU, or rehab

Requirements

  • Active NE or Compact RN license required
  • Current certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Driver's license required at time of consideration to confirm residence outside the 50-mile radius
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care on a fast-paced stepdown/PCU unit
  • Successful candidates demonstrate a positive attitude, strong communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Orientation includes a first week of onboarding followed by 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
  • RNs must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% to continue the assignment
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
  • Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment (3 shifts for shorter assignments)
