Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring 2 years of telemetry/PCU experience, ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown) setting, also covering MS/Tele, Cardiac Telemetry, ER Holding, and Neuro Stepdown
  • Patient ratio of 1:5
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-07:15)
  • Weekend requirement of 8 shifts per 6-week schedule, combination of Fri/Sat/Sun
  • Charge RN and holiday shift assignments as needed per unit
  • Regular floating required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • No on-call requirements
  • Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active RN license - Missouri or compact required, both Kansas and Missouri (or compact) license in hand at time of consideration due to floating requirements
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/telemetry experience required, with a full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gaps greater than 90 days
  • Previous Charge RN experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and rapid response team utilization
  • Experience with IV therapy including central line, PICC line, and peripheral line care, blood product administration, and phlebotomy
  • Experience managing cardiac drips, heparin protocols, PCA, and procedural sedation
  • Experience with respiratory care including chest tubes, BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy management
  • Experience with IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, and renal failure care
  • Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac
  • Two professional references required, one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both from within the past year

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients requiring intermediate cardiac and telemetry monitoring
  • Manage post-cardiac, post-MI, and pre/post cardiac catheterization and surgery patients
  • Care for CVA, total joint replacement, and surgical drain patients as needed
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • Maximum RTO of 7 days, with all time off requests finalized at time of consideration
  • Returning staff must observe an 18-month tenure with a 3-month break in service; permanent BJC or Saint Luke's employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Travel partners are not accepted
  • Compliance documents due 2 Fridays before start date, with additional EMR, infusion pump, and glucometer training modules required prior to start
