PCU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and flexible PCU Registered Nurse to join our healthcare team. This position will primarily involve providing care in a stepdown unit with a 12-hour night shift schedule. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in a similar setting and hold the necessary certifications.

Unit Information

  • Unit Type: Stepdown
  • Number of Beds: 40 beds with an average daily census of 24
  • Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:4-5 on both days and nights
  • Common Diagnoses: Adults with cardiac, renal, or respiratory conditions; dialysis; cancer; sepsis; stroke; post-operative care
  • Required Skills: Competency in arterial lines and titration of drips (Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Insulin)

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality patient care in a stepdown unit, managing complex medical conditions.
  • Monitor patients and interpret telemetry; RNs must read and interpret their own strips.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Conduct patient assessments and develop nursing care plans.
  • Provide support and education to patients and their families.
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures, including compliance with infection control protocols.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a similar nursing role
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS
    • BLS Certification
    • NIHSS
  • General Requirements: Must possess a valid driver's license and have no restrictions due to proximity to affiliated facilities.

Work Environment

  • Shift Length: 12 hours
  • Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirements: Minimum of 2 holidays during the contract period
  • Floating Requirements: Potentially float to MedSurg or ICU to care for PCU acuity patients

Dress Code

Scrub color is navy blue.

Additional Notes

This unit emphasizes teamwork, flexibility, and strong communication skills, as it serves diverse cultural populations, primarily Hispanic and Somalian. Overhead lifts are available in half the rooms, along with portable lifts and vein finders, ensuring a focus on patient care and experience.

Please be prepared to engage in orientation and provide upfront requests for time off, with a limit of 7 days per 13-week contract. Additional requests will not be accommodated.
