  • Schedule: 3 night shifts per week, 36 hours per week
  • Shift: 12-hour nights, approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

  • Typical Assignment: Approximately 1 nurse to 4 patients
  • Weekend Requirement: Approximately 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
  • Float Requirement: Float to other units within the health system as needed

PCU RN Job Requirements

  • At least 1 year of recent registered nursing experience, preferably in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU), stepdown, progressive care, intermediate care unit (IMC), direct observation unit (DOU), or telemetry setting
  • Active Ohio RN license or valid compact RN license in hand at the time of submission
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Graduate of an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
  • Experience interpreting and managing dysrhythmias and caring for patients requiring continuous telemetry monitoring
  • Proficiency with oxygen administration, nasal cannula therapy, peripheral IV line care, isolation precautions, and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to float within the organization and adapt to varying patient acuity
  • Willingness to complete required credentialing and Ohio fingerprinting promptly
  • Two professional references, including at least one manager, director, supervisor, or other formal leader
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required; medical exemptions may be considered

Progressive Care Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a mixed-acuity PCU setting
  • Monitor telemetry patients, interpret dysrhythmias, and promptly identify changes in clinical condition
  • Administer medications and oxygen therapy while following established medication-safety and infection-control standards
  • Manage peripheral IV lines and provide ongoing assessment of patient responses to treatment
  • Recognize patient deterioration and appropriately activate rapid response or code resources
  • Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rehabilitation, social services, IV teams, and other interdisciplinary healthcare partners
  • Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the electronic medical record
  • Float to other units as assigned while maintaining high standards of patient care
  • Support unit operations through effective communication with patients, families, and the care team
