Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position specializing in acute leukemia and hematology care, requiring 2 years of acute care experience and current OH or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the PCU of an acute leukemia and hematology unit within a cancer hospital
  • Primarily care for newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients in the adult and geriatric population
  • Staffing ratio goal is 1:4, though may be up to 1:5
  • Rotating 12-hour Day/Night shifts or straight 12-hour Nights, 3x12 hour shifts
  • Weekend requirements are variable based on unit needs
  • Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing priorities
  • Uses Epic for computerized charting

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • Preferred certification: ONS Chemo Certification
  • Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months required
  • At least 1 year of PCU experience required
  • Oncology experience preferred; training provided for oncology patients
  • Skills required: telemetry monitoring, interpretation of dysrhythmias, cardiac monitoring and emergency response, feeding tube care and management, IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line care/management, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, and starting/maintaining IVs
  • Preferred skills: accessing/managing ports and management of dysrhythmias
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager/director or supervisor and the second from a manager/director or charge RN; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

  • Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls prevention
  • No chemo certification required for this position
  • First-time travelers will be screened for client review and considered
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of the health system are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this facility
  • RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Locals are accepted at the same rate
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting as soon as they sign their contract due to urgent state requirements
