Description
American Traveler is hiring a Charge RN for a Clinical Decision/PCU unit requiring 2+ years of MedSurg, Telemetry, and Step-Down experience and NIHSS certification.
Details
- Works in a 40-bed Clinical Decision/Direct Admit Unit focused on ED decompression and throughput
- Cares for a wide variety of admitted patients requiring admission assessment, medication reconciliation, and initiation of acute care orders
- Patient ratios of 1:5 Step-Down/1:6 MedSurg, combined at 1:5 for day and night shifts
- Unit typically staffs a free charge nurse with 1-2 CNAs based on volume
- Uses Baxter IV pumps and Cerner documentation system
- Minimal bedside procedures performed due to unit environment
- Night shift schedule from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
- Works every other weekend with no on-call requirement
- Expected to float to other units within skill set
- Additional opportunities may be available in the CMU Telemetry Unit or as an ED Transport Nurse
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of recent MedSurg, Telemetry (remote), and Step-Down (PCU) experience preferred
- Charge Nurse experience or willingness to serve in that role appreciated
- No employment gaps of 90+ days within the past 12 months
- US Social Security Number and date of birth required for consideration (Canadian SSNs not accepted)
Additional Information
- Serve as Charge Nurse supporting a fast-paced, quick-turnover unit focused on patient safety and teamwork
- Assist with holiday coverage as needed
- Required to wear navy blue/white scrubs or a combination of the two colors, with no t-shirts allowed
- Many travelers on this unit extend their assignments, with some staying for several years
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
