Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in a progressive care unit (PCU). This position demands excellence in patient care and a willingness to learn and grow within a dynamic healthcare environment.

Unit Information

  • Beds: 40 beds with an average daily census of 24
  • Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:4-5 both days and nights
  • Common Diagnoses/Types of Patients: Adults with cardiac, med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, adult respiratory issues, strokes, post-stent, post-pacer placements, and renal failure

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care and assessments, focusing on both physical and emotional well-being
  • Titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin as necessary
  • Utilize and troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow
  • Read and interpret telemetry strips independently
  • Engage in effective communication with patients and families regarding care plans
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes

Qualifications

  • Active RN license
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • Competency in arterial line management

Scheduling and Additional Expectations

  • Shifts available: 0630-1830 and 1830-0630
  • Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirements: Minimum of 2 holidays within the contract timeframe
  • Floating to MedSurg or ICU for PCU acuity patients may be required
  • Scrubs: Navy Blue

Orientation and Training

New hires will undergo 1 day of unit-specific orientation to familiarize themselves with protocols and systems.

Patient Care Focus

The ideal candidate will emphasize patient experience, responsiveness, and effective communication about medications. A successful nurse will be a team player, flexible, and possess strong communication skills, able to adapt to various cultural populations primarily including Hispanic and Somalian communities.
