Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring NC or compact RN licensure and cardiac telemetry experience, working 12-hour night shifts.

Details

  • Community-based teaching hospital with Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designations
  • 18-bed cardiac telemetry/PCU unit with average daily census of 18
  • Cares for general medical patients requiring continuous cardiac, respiratory, hemodynamic, and neurologic monitoring, including NSTEMI, post-STEMI, cardiac interventional and EP procedures, thoracic surgery, heart failure, and post-stroke patients
  • Manages post-op day 2 open heart patients and respiratory failure cases requiring high-flow oxygen or NIPPV support
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:3 or 1:4 depending on level of intervention
  • EPIC EMR used
  • Philips Intellivue monitors in all rooms with arterial line interface for invasive blood pressure monitoring
  • Baxter IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing system used
  • 12-hour night shifts, 1900-0730, scheduled on a 6-week cycle
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating required within the critical care division or Intermediate Care

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of Cardiac Tele or PCU experience required
  • Minimum 12 months core work experience in unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Skilled in cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring, rhythm interpretation, arterial line management, drip titration, non-invasive ventilator care, vascular line care, chest tube/drain management, and post-procedure site care
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Responsible for continuous cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation
  • Supported by 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Hospitalist coverage, Rapid Response Team, CNAs, and Charge Nurse acting as resource
  • Orientation includes 36 hours in week one (NTO and online CBL via Healthstream) plus a 12-hour unit-specific shift with an RN preceptor
  • Positive, team-focused unit culture emphasizing high-tech, high-touch care
  • Travelers expected to work 75% of holidays
  • RTO subject to Resource Team approval
  • Royal blue scrub color required
