Unit Information
- Number of Beds: 630 has 34 beds, 633 has 25 beds
- Patient Ratios: 1:4 to 1:5 on days, 1:5 to 1:6 on nights
- Unit Staffing: 3 techs when full on 630 and 2 techs when full on 633
- Type of Equipment: Bipaps, high flow oxygen, Vapotherm, Alaris pumps, cardiac drips, heparin drips, insulin drips, peritoneal dialysis, wound vacs (in conjunction with wound care)
- Documentation System: Meditech
- Scheduling Requirements: Every other weekend requirement, 3 twelve-hour shifts per week
- Floating Policy: Potential to float between PCU units or to med-surg floors
- Patient Experience Requirements: Hourly rounding on days, every two-hour rounding on nights, AIDET, and maintaining communication boards on the 7th floor
Qualifications
- Required Skills:
- Critical thinking skills
- EKG rhythm interpretation
- Experience with cardiac drips, insulin drips, and heparin drips
- Preferred experience with peritoneal dialysis and peripheral IV skills
- Advanced Skills:
- ACLS certification
- Experience with bipaps, high flow oxygen, and various oxygen delivery systems
- Care for stroke and post-cardiac catheterization patients
- Preferred experience with tube feedings and NG/dobhoff tubes
Procedures Performed in Unit
- Peritoneal dialysis
- Thoracentesis
- Paracentesis
- Chest tube insertions
- Dobhoff/NG tube insertions
- Central line dressing changes
- Troubleshooting wound vacs
