Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU/Telemetry position requiring 2 years of high-acuity med-surg experience and prior travel experience.

Details

  • 12-hour night shifts (18:45-07:15) on a 3x12 schedule
  • 48-bed mixed acuity unit caring for PCU and MS/Tele patients
  • Target ratios of 1:4-5, with occasional 1:6 in extreme situations
  • 36 hours per week may be offered
  • Contract lengths of 13-26 weeks accepted, with block scheduling available when unit needs are met
  • Patient population includes COPD, pneumonia, respiratory distress, COVID-19, flu, and PE cases, including chronic trach/vent patients
  • No nurse assigned more than one ventilator patient at a time
  • Required to float to like units
  • Every other weekend required
  • Unit resources include a team lead (3:1 ratio), 2 rounding respiratory therapists, and an on-shift assistant nurse manager including weekends
  • Additional support includes an Admission/Discharge nurse, Vascular Access Team, RRT, Code Team, and Behavioral Health Team
  • Uses Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR charting systems

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at submission
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in high-acuity med-surg with occasional PCU patients required
  • Must have 1:6 patient ratio experience within the last 5 years
  • Previous travel experience required
  • EPIC charting experience preferred
  • Skills required include IV starts, chest tube care, ventilator/trach/BiPAP/CPAP management, and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
  • Additional preferred skills include cardiac/vasoactive drip titration, IV insulin protocols, and vent experience
  • Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 12 months preferred at submission, required at start

Additional Information

  • Provide bedside nursing care to a mixed acuity population of PCU and MS/Tele patients with respiratory and cardiac comorbidities
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty
  • Unit orientation is 24 hours, followed by pre-start modules (8-10 hours for acute care roles) completed online
  • Scrubs not provided; white or navy blue required
  • Local candidates accepted within 50 miles at a lower rate
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details for facility approval
  • RTO up to 7 days can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Travel pairs allowed if on different units, with own transportation and disclosed at submission
  • First-time travelers not considered for this role
