Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Summary

This position is for a Registered Nurse in a telemetry and cardiology-focused Progressive Care Unit (PCU). The nurse will be involved in the care of patients with various cardiac conditions, including open heart surgery recovery and advanced heart failure. The role encompasses patient assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.

Unit Information

  • Location: City, State
  • Number of Beds: 52 PCU, 6 Intermediate Care (IMC), 14 Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Staffing: Approximately 80 RNs and 40 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
  • Patient Ratios: 1:5 for RNs; PCTs manage 7-15 patients
  • Type of Equipment: Welch Allyn vital sign machines, GE EKG machines, Pyxis machines, Philips remote telemetry, and in-room monitors
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech

Shift Information

  • Target Start Date: Within the first two weeks of March
  • Shift Hours: 6:00 PM - 6:30 AM
  • Weekend Requirements: 4 weekend shifts per month, specifically Friday and Saturday nights
  • Call Requirements: Must be available to float within the system when necessary

Qualifications

  • Required Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience
    • Cardiology experience with open heart, heart failure management, and post-catheterization care
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Experience with Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD)
    • Proficient in Meditech

Typical Procedures Performed

The unit performs various procedures, including:

  • Cardioversion
  • Radiologist-guided thoracentesis
  • Management of catheterization lab patients, electrophysiology procedures, and post-operative cardiac surgical patients
  • Admission of advanced heart failure patients and related readmissions

Personality Fit

  • Team-oriented with a collaborative approach to patient care
  • Willingness to assist both PCTs and fellow RNs
  • Commitment to following unit policies, particularly regarding patient safety and fall precautions

Dress Code

  • Scrub Color: Navy blue
  • No fleece jackets to be worn
