Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care/Intermediate Care Unit position requiring PCU-level experience and a Maine or compact RN license.

Details

• 12-bed Intermediate Care/PCU unit within a Level II Trauma Center hospital
• Night shift schedule, 7P-7A, 36 hours per week
• Cares for cardiac and medical patients including post-op cardiac cath, ablation, TAVR, STEMI, NSTEMI, CHF, AFIB with RVR, sepsis, COPD, ETOH withdrawal, COVID, PNA, and respiratory failure requiring BiPAP or high-flow O2
• Also cares for long-term trach/vent patients, stroke patients, and stable post-craniotomy patients
• RN to patient ratio of 1:3-4 on days and nights, with tech ratio of 1:6
• Support includes 24/7 ICU-trained resource nurse, 24/7 RT, 24/7 hospitalist, IV/VAT team for US-guided IVs and PICC/midline placement, and PT/OT Monday-Friday
• Uses Cerner EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors
• Weekend rotation required every other weekend
• May float to ED, ICU, or CCU when there is an intermediate-level assignment in those departments

Requirements

• Active RN license (Maine state or compact) required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of PCU/Intermediate Care experience required, or 2 years of Med/Surg experience with some PCU exposure
• Comfortable performing trach care and suctioning, administering 100% FiO2 via suction support, and silencing vent alarms
• Experience with chest tubes, wound vac/VAC dressing changes, BiPAP, non-titrating vasoactive/antiarrhythmic drips, cardiac rhythm interpretation, temporary pacemakers, TR bands, post-femoral sheath care, insulin drips, drain/ostomy care, and IV starts
• Comfortable performing Q2H neuro checks; prior stable craniotomy experience preferred but not required if confident in neuro assessment
• Trauma patient care experience required
• Cerner EMR experience preferred

• Orientation consists of general hospital orientation followed by one day on the unit
• Charge nurse role may carry a patient assignment if needed
• Scrub color is flexible as long as professional

• Up to 7 days of time off may be approved at submission; holiday requests require manager approval and holiday coverage expectations vary based on unit needs
• COVID-19 and influenza vaccination required for all staff, with medical exemptions only considered by the client and requiring at least 2 weeks for review
