Description:
The Patient Care Technician will work in a psychiatric unit that provides care for patients with severe mental illnesses and behavioral issues.
Common diagnoses include schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, anxiety, depression, and trauma, often with multiple comorbidities.
Patients are typically medically stable, with medically unstable cases being transferred out.
Responsibilities include performing phlebotomy, conducting 12 Lead EKGs, providing personal care, and assisting with patient transport.
The role also involves conducting contraband searches, property inventory, and assisting physicians and nursing staff.
The Patient Care Technician will administer medications, including oral psychotropics and IM injections.
Charge nurses will coordinate the unit and assist staff without taking patient assignments.
The position requires the ability to identify major and life-threatening rhythms during cardiac monitoring.
Efficient teamwork with respiratory therapists and other medical staff is crucial for delivering patient care.
Weekend work is required every other week.
Maroon red scrubs are the designated color for this position.
The role will involve a comprehensive orientation period to ensure readiness for the responsibilities ahead.
