Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring 2 years of PACU/critical care experience and MO or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Work in a 38-bay Phase I PACU unit within a Level I Trauma Center recovering pre/post surgical and interventional radiology patients
• Unit open 24/7 with an average daily census of 70-90 patients
• Patient population includes adults, occasional adolescents, and geriatric patients
• Recover surgical cases including neurosurgery, ENT, plastics, orthopedics, thoracic, vascular, trauma, general, colorectal, GYN, urology, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, and transplant
• Does not recover open heart surgery or liver transplant cases
• Unit has its own dedicated PCT/transport team
• Day shift schedule of 4x10 hours from 7:30am-6:00pm
• No weekends, holidays, or on-call requirements
• Floating limited to PACU or PreOp units only
• Charting performed in Epic

Requirements

• Active MO or compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• CCRN and TNCC certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of PACU experience in a Level I Trauma Center required
• Critical care/ICU experience required
• Level I and Level II trauma center experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Epic charting experience required
• Skilled in dysrhythmia recognition/management, blood product administration, phlebotomy, IV starts, IV vasopressors, and ICP monitoring
• Experience caring for ventilated patients required
• First-time travelers must have 2 years of Level I critical care/ICU and PACU experience

Additional Information

• Provide post-anesthesia recovery care for a wide range of acute surgical patients including those requiring artificial airways, invasive monitoring, transfusions, and vasoactive medications
• Night shift staff will need to learn how to work up a pre-op patient
• Facility is a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma Center and teaching hospital with 1,273 staffed beds
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Fit testing required; facial hair must accommodate proper fit testing or must be shaved
• First-time travelers accepted with required experience
• No local candidates accepted within 75 miles of the facility
• RTO limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
• Returning permanent BJC employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
• Standard travelers may stay up to 18 months, followed by a required 3-month break in service
