Job Summary
Post Anesthesia Care Unit position with rotating 8-hour shifts and required call coverage. The role provides post-anesthesia care for surgical patients, including orthopedic, general, neurological, urological, robotic-assisted, and occasional pediatric dental cases. Flexibility may be required to support pre- and post-operative care or post-care unit coverage based on volume.
Job Details
- Schedule: Rotating 8-hour shifts, 40 hours per week, with varied start times and required call coverage. Weekday call is from 10:00 p.m. to 8:30 a.m.; weekend call is 24 hours, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. Call response time is 30 minutes.
- Required Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years of experience; valid professional license required for submission; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Additional Information:
- Typical patient ratios are 1:1 or 1:2.
- Telemetry experience is required, including the ability to read and interpret electrocardiogram (EKG) strips.
- Call participation is required, including every other weekend, holidays, overnight weekday call, one weekend day per month, and three weekday call shifts per 30-day period.
- Holiday coverage rotates with core staff, and two of the three major holidays may be required.
- Orientation includes 12 days with a preceptor in the post-anesthesia care unit.
- The role may flex to pre- and post-operative care or a post-care unit based on volume.
- Common patient populations include total hip and knee procedures, general surgery, robotic-assisted procedures, neurological procedures, urological procedures, and occasional pediatric dental cases.
- The role requires flexibility and dependability to assist with coverage needs and scheduled cases.
- Pediatric cases require 1:1 care.
