Job Summary
Registered Nurse, Post Anesthesia Care Unit. This position provides preoperative care and Phase I and Phase II recovery care for surgical patients. The role requires advanced anesthesiology knowledge, critical-care assessment skills, and the ability to monitor patients for stability or complications following surgery.
Job Details
- Required Qualifications: Valid professional license in Hawaii by the start of the assignment; at least 2 years of experience as a critical-care Registered Nurse (RN), such as Emergency Room (ER) or Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience, may substitute for Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience; valid Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) credentials from the American Heart Association; proof of influenza vaccination or an approved medical or religious exception before the contract start date.
- Preferred Qualifications: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) credential from the American Heart Association; specialty-related certifications such as National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
- Schedule: Day shifts, 12 hours per shift, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Responsibilities: Provide care during preoperative preparation and Phase I and Phase II recovery; assess incision sites; monitor body temperature and other indicators of patient stability or complications; apply critical-thinking skills in post-anesthesia care.
- Additional Information: On-call coverage may be required up to 3 times per month, including 8-hour overnight shifts and 24-hour weekend or holiday shifts. An employee health appointment is required before the assignment begins.
