Job Summary
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nurse is based in a Level I Trauma Center and specializes in providing high-acuity post-anesthesia recovery care. This critical care role involves managing adult, adolescent, and geriatric patients post-surgery, including those requiring invasive monitoring, artificial airways, transfusions, and vasoactive medications. The position offers an opportunity to work nights during the weekend shift.
Job Details
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS required; CCRN and TNCC preferred
- Education and Experience: 2 years of critical care or PACU experience; minimum of 2 years of specialized practice in high-acuity inpatient settings
- Location Requirements: Must be at least 75 miles from the facility
- Schedule: Night shift, Fridays through Sundays, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week
- Additional Information: Critical care experience required as some patients require artificial airways, invasive monitoring (including ICP), transfusions, and vasoactive drugs. Night shift nurses are expected to pre-op patients for first cases from 5:30 AM to 7:30 AM when there are no patients for them in the PACU. The unit includes 38 patient bays and operates 24/7, handling surgical recoveries for a wide range of specialties including neurosurgery, ENT, plastics, orthopedics, thoracic, vascular, trauma, general, colorectal, GYN, urological, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, and transplant. The position involves learning to work up pre-op patients and may require floating within scope to PACU or Preoperative units.
