• Assignment Type: Travel nursing contract
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,450–$2,580
• Start Date: November 16, 2026
• Assignment End Date: February 15, 2027
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks; longer assignment options may be available
• Schedule: 4 shifts per week, 10-hour day shifts
• Shift Hours: 6:45 a.m. – 5:15 p.m.
• Weekly Hours: 40 hours
• Call Requirement: Approximately one call shift per week
• Weekend Coverage: Approximately one weekend shift per month
• Perioperative Setting: 23 operating rooms in an acute care, Level I trauma environment
• Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
• Electronic Charting: Cerner experience preferred

Operating Room RN Job Requirements

• At least 2.5 years of recent Operating Room Registered Nurse experience
• Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers are not accepted
• Active Illinois RN license in hand at the time of submission
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross; RQI cards are not accepted
• CNOR certification preferred
• Level I trauma nursing experience required
• Strong general operating room and trauma experience required
• Experience with a broad range of surgical cases, including general surgery, bariatric, orthopedic, neurologic, plastic, urologic, transplant, and trauma procedures
• Proficiency with laparoscopic-assisted procedures and cases such as appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, and Whipple procedures
• Experience with cervical and lumbar fusion, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, arthroscopy, fracture reductions, microvascular free flap procedures, cystoscopy, nephrectomy, prostatectomy, and organ donation
• Ability to work across applicable surgical service lines; cardiovascular cases are excluded
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the assignment location
• Willingness to float within scope of practice and work approximately two of the three major holidays
• Current influenza vaccination required; qualifying medical or religious exemptions may be considered

Perioperative Nursing Responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence-based perioperative nursing care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
• Perform circulating and scrub nurse functions according to competency, service-line needs, and operating room standards
• Prepare operating rooms, equipment, instruments, supplies, and surgical counts before, during, and after procedures
• Participate in general, orthopedic, neurologic, plastic, urologic, transplant, bariatric, and trauma cases
• Apply expertise in laparoscopic procedures, fracture repair, spine and cranial surgery, microvascular procedures, organ donation, and complex trauma care
• Administer blood products and maintain accurate specimen handling and labeling
• Follow infection prevention practices, radiation safety procedures, latex-allergy precautions, fire safety protocols, and malignant hyperthermia response procedures
• Perform or assist with universal protocol and surgical time-out procedures, urinary bladder catheterization, and code response
• Operate or assist with electrosurgical units, fiber-optic light sources and cords, and specialized surgical tables
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, nurses, technicians, and interdisciplinary support teams to promote efficient patient flow and excellent patient outcomes
• Float within the registered nurse’s scope of practice when needed to support perioperative operations
