Operating Room RN Job Requirements

• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license
• At least 1 year of professional nursing experience, with operating room experience required
• Demonstrated competency in perioperative nursing and surgical patient care
• Ability to complete specialty-specific competency validation and required credentialing
• Successful completion of required background screening, health clearance, and facility onboarding requirements
• Strong communication, organization, teamwork, and clinical judgment skills

Perioperative Nursing Responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures
• Prepare operating rooms, equipment, supplies, and instruments for scheduled surgical cases
• Function effectively in the circulating and/or scrub nurse role according to training and competency
• Verify patient identity, procedure, consent, site, and required documentation in accordance with surgical safety standards
• Monitor patient status, maintain sterile technique, and promptly communicate changes to the surgical team
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, surgical technologists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, counts, medications, and patient responses
• Support room turnover, infection prevention practices, and efficient operating room flow
• Promote patient advocacy, comfort, dignity, and continuity of care throughout the perioperative experience
