Job Title: Ophthalmic Technician Profession: Technician Specialty: Offsite Ophthalmic Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 8AM - 5PM Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Two (2) years as an Ophthalmic Technician License: N/A Certifications: N/A Must-Have: Two (2) years minimum experience working as an Ophthalmic Technician Description: This position performs preliminary screening examinations for physician review. Responsibilities include central and peripheral visual field tests, ocular motility tests, color vision tests, pharmacological pupil tests, and tonometry. The technician determines intraocular pressure and pupil testing for size, equality, and reaction prior to dilation. Directs the flow of patients examined by a physician. Obtains medical and personal data for patient charts. Screens patients for conditions excluding ocular examination. Arranges for laboratory and other tests, ophthalmic photography, outpatient studies, and patient admissions and surgery as requested by the physician. Explains diagnostic procedures and methods of treatment to alleviate patient and family concerns. Calibrates and maintains all instruments used, including bio-microscopes, lensometers, keratometers, tangent screens, slit lamps, and tonometers. Cleans and stocks consultation rooms and microbiology laboratory with drugs and other supplies as needed. Sterilizes and sets up instruments for ophthalmic surgical procedures. Assists with minor office surgery, laser treatments, and operating room surgery as required. Performs other duties as assigned. Required skills include excellent patient and people skills. Well-versed in a variety of routine procedures and applications.
