Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Oncology RN for a Level I trauma, Magnet-designated hospital, requiring chemotherapy and IV therapy skills.

Details

  • Inpatient Oncology unit with 24 rooms/beds and average daily census of 24
  • Patient ratio of 1:6-7
  • Day shift, 3x12 hours (7:15am-6:45pm)
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities
  • Uses Cerner charting system

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license in hand or in-process required
  • BLS certification required
  • Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) and OCN preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Chemotherapy skills required: administration (IV push, oral, continuous infusion), body fluid handling, cytotoxic spill management/disposal, monitoring, and recognizing/communicating abnormal lab values
  • IV therapy/infusion skills required: accessing and managing ports, central line and PICC line care, central line blood draw, starting/maintaining IVs, and administration of blood products, coagulation factors, antifungals, and antivirals
  • Prior charge experience preferred
  • Experience in teaching, community, LTAC, and Level I/II trauma hospital settings preferred

Additional Information

  • Care for oncology patients including those with leukemia, blood dyscrasias, and lymphoma
  • Manage chemotherapy symptom side effects such as nausea/vomiting, neuropathy, altered mental status, and dysphagia
  • Provide psychosocial support including patient/family education and hospice care as needed
  • Scrubs must be any solid color
  • Facility is an Acute Care, Level I trauma, Magnet-designated hospital
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction
  • Previous permanent or PRN employees must be separated from the facility for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • RTO of up to 5 non-holiday days may be approved; additional days require facility approval
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
