Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Oncology RN for a 13-week travel assignment requiring 2 years of specialty experience and Epic proficiency

Details

  • Work in the Oncology unit of a hospital environment
  • Patient population includes hematology, medical oncology, bone marrow transplant (BMT), and gynecologic and surgical oncology cases
  • 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Care provided in a 7-bed positive pressure wing for BMT and acute leukemia patients
  • Performs bedside CVC placements and bone marrow biopsies
  • Uses Epic-integrated Alaris IV pumps, barcode medication administration, SCD machines, and Alaris feeding pumps
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Day shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
  • Every other weekend coverage required
  • Floating required
  • No call-in required

Requirements

  • Active RN license (LA state or compact) required in hand upon submittal
  • Current AHA certifications: BLS and ACLS required
  • ONS certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of specialty experience required
  • Prior experience with 1:4 patient ratios required
  • Epic charting system experience preferred
  • Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and port access/management
  • Experience with chemotherapy administration and monitoring preferred
  • Skilled in blood product administration, central line blood draws, and PICC line management preferred
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and rapid response/code teams preferred
  • Up-to-date NURSYS report required with profile submission

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include administering chemotherapy, managing central venous catheters, and performing bone marrow biopsy support
  • May be assigned to an Emergency Team during facility emergency events, requiring the traveler to remain onsite until the event passes or serve as part of a relief team
  • Two Manager or Supervisor references (Charge RNs not accepted) required to obtain clearance to start, though not required at submission
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Must live 65+ miles from the facility, based on driver's license address, as local candidates are not accepted
  • RTO must be documented on profile and discussed during the interview to avoid offer rescission
  • Orientation is held five days a week
  • Candidates who previously worked as permanent staff or in-house agency contractors must have a full year separation from the facility before returning as a traveler
