Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Oncology RN for a 13-week assignment requiring 2 years of oncology experience and both Missouri/Kansas or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Inpatient oncology unit treating all types of cancer across all phases of care, from work-up through completion of therapy
  • Also serves as a step-down neuro overflow unit for strokes, head bleeds, and other neurological needs
  • Provides post-op care for Uro-Gyn and Gyn-Onc surgical patients
  • Administers inpatient chemotherapy regimens
  • Patient ratio of 1:5
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 AM-7:15 PM)
  • Weekend requirement of 8 shifts within a 6-week schedule, combination of Friday/Saturday/Sunday
  • Holiday shifts and charge RN assignments as needed
  • Regular floating required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • Uses EPIC charting system
  • No on-call requirements

Requirements

  • Active RN license - Missouri and Kansas or compact license required in hand due to floating requirements
  • BLS certification required
  • Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) preferred
  • 2 years of recent oncology experience required, with a full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gaps greater than 90 days
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Skilled in IV therapy and infusions including blood/blood product administration, central line care, and port management
  • Experienced in managing oncologic emergencies such as sepsis
  • Proficient in chemotherapy administration and monitoring
  • Skilled in symptom management including nausea/vomiting, neuropathy, and altered mental status
  • Experienced in pain management including IV push narcotics and PCA pump management
  • Skilled in chest tube, colostomy, and foley catheter care and management
  • Experienced in wound care, telemetry monitoring, and isolation/neutropenic precautions
  • Post-surgical care experience required
  • Pending license accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive oncology nursing care across the full spectrum of cancer treatment phases
  • Deliver post-operative care to Uro-Gyn and Gyn-Onc surgical patients
  • Support neurological step-down patients as part of unit overlap coverage
  • Facility is a Level 1 Trauma tertiary care hospital and 5-time Magnet Award recipient
  • Free parking available
  • First-time travelers accepted; no prior travel experience required
  • Local candidates not accepted; must reside at least 75 miles from the facility
  • No block scheduling accommodations available
  • RTO limited to a maximum of 7 days, with all time-off requests finalized prior to submission
  • No additional RTO or schedule changes permitted after offer or onsite
  • Returning staff must have a 3-month break in service after 18 months, and former permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a travel clinician
