Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN Nurse Navigator for an Oncology Clinic role requiring a DC RN license and at least 2 years of oncology-related nursing experience.

Details

  • Oncology Clinic setting within a Radiation Treatment Center
  • Patients report Monday-Friday for radiation therapy
  • Primary diagnosis population is cancer patients
  • Day shift schedule, 5x8-hour shifts from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
  • Office duties include chart preparation, disability forms, pharmacy calls, and telephone triage
  • Charting completed in Cerner

Requirements

  • Active DC RN license required in hand
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required within the last 7 years
  • At least one completed travel assignment required
  • Cerner charting experience required
  • Experience with port care, central line/implanted line care, and starting IVs in adults required
  • Skilled in managing oncologic emergencies including ATLS, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression
  • Experience with neutropenic precautions and tracheostomy care/management required
  • Experience with external radiation therapy (teletherapy) and radiation safety precautions required
  • Skilled in symptom management including altered mental status, constipation/diarrhea, dysphagia, edema, nausea/vomiting, and neuropathy
  • Wound care experience required
  • Radiation Oncology experience preferred
  • Nurse Navigator or Nurse Coordinator experience preferred
  • Oncology experience a plus

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care including education, skincare/wound care, and assessment of radiation toxicity
  • Assess patients for signs or symptoms of concern and consult with attending physicians, residents, or emergency services as needed
  • Address patients' social needs as part of holistic care
  • Flu vaccine required for all employees at this facility
  • Local candidates within 60 miles accepted at a different pay rate
  • Previous MedStar employees must have been separated for at least one year before returning as a traveler
  • No more than 7 days of RTO permitted per 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first two weeks of the assignment
