Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Oncology RN with Chemo Certification (ONS/ONCC) and Epic charting experience for a day shift inpatient/outpatient oncology position.

Details

  • Inpatient and outpatient oncology unit with an average daily census of 25 across 8 rooms
  • Adult and geriatric patient population with a variety of cancer and chronic disease diagnoses including breast, bowel, bladder, brain, lung, gyn, head and neck, prostate, pancreatic cancers, lymphomas, multiple myelomas, and chronic leukemias
  • 1:5 patient-to-nurse staffing ratio
  • Day shift schedule, 5x8 hour shifts from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
  • Uses Pyxis medication system and Epic Beacon for documentation
  • Provider support includes pharmacy, social services, transportation, and unit secretary
  • Medical Oncologist available daily by phone, in-house 2 days/week; NP in-house 1-2 days/week
  • Performs IV chemotherapy administration including bladder installations, implanted port care, foley catheter insertion, peripheral IV insertion, PICC line care, SQ/IM injections, and blood product administration
  • Utilizes Alaris and CADD infusion pumps and lab centrifuge equipment
  • Floating to other units and/or facilities expected as needed

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required
  • BLS certification required
  • ONS/ONCC chemotherapy certification required
  • Minimum 1 year of acute care experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Skilled in IV therapy and infusions including accessing/managing ports, central line care, PICC line care, and blood product administration
  • Experience monitoring chemotherapy and recognizing/communicating abnormal lab values
  • Experience with patient/family education and support
  • Care coordination skills required
  • Previous travel nursing experience required
  • Two professional references from within the last 24 months required, submitted within 72 hours of signing
  • SSN, DOB, and AHA certifications required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provides direct oncology nursing care including chemotherapy administration, port and central line management, and symptom management for cancer patients
  • Coordinates care with pharmacy, social services, transportation, and unit secretary support staff
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Free parking available
  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be considered; local candidates not accepted
  • Requested time off of 7+ days requires manager approval and cannot include holidays or the days immediately following holidays
  • Previous staff members must have a 1-year gap since separation to be eligible for rehire
  • Travel pairs may be submitted; if related, they may work at the same facility but not the same unit
  • Schedules may be adjusted with two-weeks notice to balance staffing needs
  • No block scheduling; must work with unit leadership on scheduling concerns
  • First-time travelers may be considered given required acute care experience is met
