Contract | Days | 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM | Expected 1–2 weekends per schedule rotation (may include both days, with time off before and/or after the weekend)
Key Responsibilities
- Perform occupational therapy evaluations and deliver individualized treatment interventions for patients across a variety of diagnoses, including orthopedic, neurological, and general medical disorders
- Manage a high-volume caseload of approximately 4–5 patients per day within a 21-bed inpatient unit, adjusting priorities dynamically based on new orders, patient status, and scheduling demands
- Monitor and interpret vital signs, apply knowledge of indications and contraindications, and adapt treatment plans for medically complex and often medically unstable patients
- Complete thorough documentation using computerized charting systems; utilize specialized equipment including UE Bioness and Dynavision as applicable; administer FIM assessments
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support discharge planning, ensure patient safety, and facilitate hand-off communication
- Supervise certified occupational therapy assistants, aides, and students as applicable within the scope of practice
Required Qualifications
- Active Occupational Therapist (OT) license in the state of South Dakota or eligibility to obtain
- Knowledge of and adherence to the South Dakota Occupational Therapy Practice Act and Administrative Rules
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate and treat medically complex patients, including awareness of vital signs, medical equipment, and contraindications
- Strong critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills required for a fast-paced acute care environment
- Ability to badge in and out at the facility for every shift

Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior experience in acute care and/or inpatient rehabilitation settings
- Familiarity with computerized charting and electronic health record documentation
- Experience with modalities, FIM scoring, and adaptive/assistive technology such as UE Bioness or Dynavision
- Experience supervising OTAs, therapy aides, or clinical students
