Unit Details
- Approximately 5–15 patients/day, depending on consult volume
- Typically 3–4 other RNs in the wound care role
- Acute inpatient wound care coverage across multiple hospitals
Required Certifications / Licensure
- BLS
- CWON / WOCN certification
- Wound Care Certification (WCC via NAWCO) listed as required
Common Wounds / Patient Needs
- Ostomies
- Draining wounds and fistulas
- Pressure injuries
- Vascular and arterial ulcers
- Diabetic ulcers
- Incontinence-related skin breakdown
- Surgical and traumatic wounds
- Skin/tissue integrity issues
- Wound VAC management
Responsibilities
- Perform wound and ostomy assessments
- Manage and coordinate wound care plans
- Provide consult recommendations
- Document care and support billing requirements
- Coordinate discharge supplies
- Identify prevention strategies
- Provide patient/staff education
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
- Use facility-provided phone for wound photo documentation
Floating may sometimes be scheduled in advance.

No prior travel experience required. Best fit is an experienced wound/ostomy RN with current certification who wants a strong 4x10 day schedule with no weekends, holidays, or call.
