Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a 14-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit serving inpatients with primary medical diagnoses and secondary behavioral health or psychiatric components
- Monitor and interpret telemetry and dysrhythmia data for assigned patients at a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratiomonitor patients via continuous video security surveillance system and coordinate with behavioral health techs and security staff
- Perform and maintain competency in sterile field procedures including Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
- Administer chemical restraints and manage rare physical restraints in accordance with facility policy; document care using Cerner EMR
- Float as needed to ED psych holds or Med/Surg floors; participate in every 3rd weekend rotation and holiday rotation with permanent staff
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license with a minimum of 18 months of Med/Surg Telemetry experience; Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma experience strongly preferred
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Must successfully pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance (two attempts allowed)
- Must successfully complete a Day 1 pass/fail SIMs Lab covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; demonstrated competency in sterile field technique is essential
- Proficiency with Cerner EMR
- Must have personal reliable transportation; first-time travelers are welcome to apply
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Psychiatric or behavioral health nursing experience is preferred but not required; a genuine interest in working with patients who have mental illness is highly valued
- Experience caring for patients with dementia, confusion, or low cognitive ability
- Familiarity with chemical restraint protocols and behavioral health safety monitoring practices
