Provide direct patient care on a 70-bed Cardio Thoracic unit with a night shift nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6
Monitor and interpret EKG rhythms using Philips telemetry monitoring systems; collaborate with monitor technicians on shift
Titrate drips including Cardizem and heparin per unit protocols and physician orders
Care for patients presenting with diagnoses including MI, CHF, atrial fibrillation, COPD, pacemaker/AICD placement, lung surgeries with chest tubes, and esophagectomy
Manage patients requiring CPAP, BiPAP (home regimen), and heated high-flow oxygen as indicated
Float to other general medical units as needed
Required Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Illinois or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Demonstrated proficiency in EKG interpretation
Experience with medication titration and drip management
Proficiency in all fundamental nursing skills applicable to an adult medical-surgical/telemetry setting
Preferred Experience / Skills
Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
Prior experience in a telemetry, cardio thoracic, or step-down unit setting
Familiarity with chest tube management and post-surgical cardiac or thoracic patient populations
