Registered Nurse (RN) – Telemetry / Cardio Thoracic

Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Night Shift | 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM | Every other weekend required | Holiday rotation required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a 70-bed Cardio Thoracic unit serving patients with diagnoses including MI, CHF, atrial fibrillation, COPD, pacemaker/AICD placement, lung surgeries with chest tubes, esophagectomy, and general medical overflow
- Maintain night shift nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5–6, collaborating with PCTs and a 24/7 charge nurse and house supervisor
- Perform EKG interpretation and read/interpret telemetry strips using Philips monitoring systems; monitor technicians are available on unit
- Titrate drips including Cardizem and heparin as required
- Manage patients on CPAP, BiPAP (home regimen), and heated high-flow oxygen in applicable circumstances
- Float to other general medical units as needed
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- BLS certification required
- Proficiency in EKG interpretation and medication titration
- Ability to pass a drug screen; facility maintains a drug-free campus policy
- Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for standard contract rates
Preferred Experience / Skills
- ACLS certification recommended
- Prior experience in telemetry, cardiac, or cardio thoracic nursing
- Familiarity with chest tube management and post-surgical cardiac/thoracic patient populations
- Previous experience at a comparable facility or health system
