Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care for ED hold patients awaiting inpatient bed placement, with a primary focus on medical/telemetry patients at a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Monitor, read, and interpret cardiac telemetry strips independently — no monitor technician is available on unit
- Titrate cardiac drips per physician orders and parameters, including Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone
- Assist with ED patient support tasks such as vital signs, IV starts, and medication administration as needed (will not serve as primary RN for ED patient assignments)
- Float to med/surg, telemetry, and overflow units at multiple campus locations as needed
- Participate in weekend rotation (4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule) and holiday rotation with permanent staff
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license with a minimum of 2 years of recent telemetry/cardiac experience (experience must be within the past 6 months)
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification required
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam via Relias within 48 hours of offer (maximum 2 attempts)
- Must pass a Simulation Lab (Pass/Fail) on day one of orientation — study guides provided
- Strong cardiac telemetry background required; must be able to decrease cardiac drips per physician orders and parameters
Preferred Experience / Skills
- 2 or more years of dedicated cardiac telemetry experience strongly preferred
- Familiarity with ED hold environments and high-acuity medical/telemetry patient populations
- Comfort working in fast-paced settings with PCTs available for support but without monitor technician coverage
