Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse for a 13-week travel assignment in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in Hilo, Hawaii. This vital role involves providing high-quality nursing care to a diverse patient population within a 15-bed unit, which includes 3 Step-down ICU beds and 12 Telemetry beds.
The successful candidate will be responsible for primary nursing care, comprehensive telemetry monitoring, and managing patients with varying acuities. This position offers an opportunity to work within a dynamic acute care environment, contributing to exceptional patient outcomes in a supportive team setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive primary nursing care to PCU and Step-down ICU patients.
- Perform continuous telemetry monitoring and accurate interpretation of telemetry strips.
- Conduct fingerstick blood sugar monitoring and management.
- Maintain patient ratios of 1:4 for Progressive Care and 1:3 for Step-down ICU.
- Float to other acute care units as needed, including Medical, Surgical/Pediatrics, ICU, and Emergency Room.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Hawaii.
- Minimum of one (1) year of recent (within the last year) acute care hospital experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting.
- Previous telemetry experience.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency in primary nursing care and patient assessment.
- Expertise in telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation.
- Competency in fingerstick blood sugar management.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems, specifically Meditech charting.
- Familiarity with medication dispensing systems, such as Pyxis.
- Ability to operate and monitor Continuous Cardiac Monitoring equipment.
- Experience with BiPAP therapy.
Shift Details
- Shift Type: Day shifts (AM)
- Shift Duration: 8 hours per shift
- Days per Week: 5 days per week
- Scheduled Hours: 36 hours per week following the first week of orientation. Hours are not guaranteed.
- Call Requirements: No call required.
- Weekend Rotations: Not specified.
- Contract Length: 13 weeks

Licensing Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Hawaii is mandatory.
- Candidate must possess an active Hawaii RN license by the start of the assignment.
