The unit consists of 38 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 4:1 to 5:1. Registered Nurses are required to titrate drips including insulin, heparin, amiodarone, and cardizem. There are monitor technicians available, and nurses must be able to read their own telemetry strips. The telemetry monitors used are of the GE brand. Charge nurses or nursing supervisors do not take patient assignments. There are nurse aides present in the unit, with varying ratios. Respiratory equipment such as CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow systems are utilized. This role involves floating to medical-surgical and telemetry units as needed. Weekend and holiday requirements vary. There is no call or standby requirement for this position. Self-scheduling and block scheduling options are available. The charting system used is Cerner.
