Description:
Unit has a prescreening process for clinical qualifications.
Two supervisory references are needed for submission; one within the last 12 months and one within the last 3 years.
Prior to acceptance, completion of a dysrhythmia exam (basic) is required.
This must be submitted within 24-48 hours of acceptance.
Candidates have two attempts to pass the exam.
A screenshot showing the number of attempts must be provided.
Failure to pass the second attempt will result in being unable to work at this facility.
Travelers are required to work two of the three major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.
Unit managers will determine scheduling based on availability.
Holiday time off requests will be considered but are not guaranteed.
Facility-wide orientation is conducted during the first week.
There are 14 beds in one area and 8 beds in another.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4.
Charge nurses normally do not take patients but will relieve others during breaks.
Nurse aides are available as census and staffing dictate.
Every other weekend is required for scheduling.
Holiday rotation will include core staff.
Scrub colors are navy, with under shirts permitted in navy, white, or black.
Scrubs jackets are optional but must be navy.
Vents are not utilized within the unit.
Clientists or intensivists are present in-house.
Respiratory therapy is available 24/7.
Pharmacy services are also available 24/7.
Shifts start at 6:45 PM with bedside reporting.
Self-scheduling is utilized, but is subject to manager approval.
Schedules are typically released four weeks in advance.
Travelers may access their schedules from home and communicate availability for extra shifts or trades.
Block scheduling is generally not offered.
First-to-float policy applies, and floating may occur to other units as necessary.
Participants should expect 1-2 days of floor-specific orientation with a preceptor.
Common patient diagnoses include cardiac conditions and general overflow cases.
The focus is on stable, non-titrating medications such as Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Heparin.
Flexibility is essential as teamwork is a key component of success.
Charge RNs participate in rounds with the interdisciplinary team.
Medical declination for COVID must be accompanied by a physician’s note.
Religious declination does not require supporting documentation.
The facility reserves the right to cancel up to four shifts during a 13-week assignment and three shifts for shorter assignments.
Charting is performed using an electronic medical record system.
A BSN is not required for this position.
The trauma level and acute care setting are applicable to this role.
