Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Cardio Thoracic Unit - Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active IL license required Certifications: BLS required, ACLS recommended Must-Have: EKG interpretation, medication titration skills, RN licensure Description: The Cardio Thoracic Unit consists of 70 beds. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night. Common diagnoses include myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and patients with pacemakers or AICDs. Nurses will encounter patients undergoing various lung surgeries, including esophagectomies. Candidates must have experience with EKG interpretation and medication titration. RNs are required to titrate drips, primarily Cardizem and heparin. Each shift will have a charge nurse available who typically does not take direct patient assignments. Additionally, there is a house supervisor present 24/7. Patient Care Technicians are available with ratios of 1:8-9 during the day, 1:9-10 in the evening, and 1:10-12 at night. Nurses may interact with respiratory equipment such as CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen. While RNs primarily troubleshoot these devices, they will only manage heated high flow in specific circumstances. Nurses must be capable of reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips, as well as having access to monitor techs for additional support. Shifts are scheduled for 12 hours from 0700-1930 and 1900-0730. Weekend requirements involve working every other weekend, either Saturday/Sunday or Friday/Saturday for nights. Holiday scheduling is mandatory, including Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. Floating to other general medical units is expected. Dress code permits any color scrubs, excluding children or cartoon-themed prints. Unit-specific orientation typically occurs over one shift or part of a shift, depending on prior experience.
