The unit has 20 beds, all private rooms. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 for telemetry patients. The average number of patients seen or admitted varies from 1-2 discharges and admissions to 10. Common diagnoses include telemetry, post catheterization, and medical/surgical patients with telemetry monitoring needs. Candidates must be proficient in using Point of Care Testing for blood glucose monitoring. Nurses will be responsible for placing IVs and drawing labs from central lines. A designated charge nurse will support the unit. Patient care technicians will assist with ambulating patients, vital signs, and other basic patient care tasks. Monitor technicians are present to assist with cardiac monitoring throughout the hospital. Pharmacy support is available 24/7. Respiratory therapy is available on-site 24/7. Physician coverage is provided by hospitalists around the clock. Floating may occur to comparable units as needed. Weekends and holidays are required. Navy blue scrubs are the dress code for this position. Travelers may be asked to precept or take on charge responsibilities, depending on comfort level. This position involves working with telemetry patients and requires the ability to adapt quickly to changing situations.
