Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Telemedicine Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (7 PM - 7 AM) Experience: 1 year of experience in the related nursing specialty preferred License: RN License in the state of employment or compact Certifications: BLS certification from AHA required Must-Have: ACLS certification from AHA required Description: Type of patients on the unit include myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, peripheral vascular disease, and some medical-surgical overflow. The department manages various cardiac drips, but does not perform nitrates. Nurses are expected to float when needed. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 5:1, but may occasionally be 6:1. The competent nurse practices independently and demonstrates an awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation. Routine and complex care is provided, with an ability to focus on long-range goals or plans. The nurse continues to develop the ability to cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing. Appropriate assignments and delegations to other care providers are made to help manage the clinical situation. Nursing care is provided utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients. Increased complexity of psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families is addressed in accordance with the nurse's level of practice. Medications and treatments are administered using appropriate protocols, while monitoring for side effects and effectiveness. Patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given are documented. Learning needs are assessed and education is provided to patients, family members, and caregivers; issues and resources are identified. Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is expected. All newly hired experienced RNs must attend orientation within the first 30 days of hire. New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member. Skills and competency completion will be achieved with the preceptor at the bedside and documented through the program tracking software.
