Description:
Department: Telemetry
The unit consists of 18 beds.
Nurse to patient ratios are 4-5 during the day and 5-6 at night.
Common diagnoses include stroke, congestive heart failure, acute coronary syndrome, coronary artery disease, and post-heart catheterization patients.
Titration of drips is not required, but common titratable medications include Cardizem, Amio, and Dopamine, with Heparin being titrated.
Nurses are required to sign off on telemetry strips as monitor technicians are responsible for central telemetry.
Charge nurses have a patient assignment.
There are nurse aides on the unit, with the ratio depending on acuity, which typically includes 2 CNAs.
Equipment used includes BiPAP and High Flow.
Shifts are scheduled based on the department's needs.
Every other weekend and holiday rotation are required.
Floating to ICU, medical-surgical, and emergency departments may occur.
Scrub colors are not specified.
